Chesterbrook Dive - Season Kickoff Email PLEASE READ!
Parents and Divers, welcome to the season! Please read this entire email, there's a lot to go over:
1: Volunteer slots for the entire season are under the Signup Calendar on Swimtopia. Please volunteer.
https://chesterbrookdive.swimtopia.com/swim_meets
2: Morning practices start Monday, June 16th.
3: The first A meet of the season is Tuesday, June 17 at Chesterbrook against Wakefield Chapel. Warmups start at 4.
4: The first B meet of the season is Thursday, June 19th at Chesterbrook. It's the Lollipop meet and a great opportunity for new divers, judges, table workers and other volunteers to get some practice. And lollipops.
5: There are additional judges and referee clinics, please go if you need one of these!
VOLUNTEERING! Our dive team runs on volunteers. For every home meet, we a referee, two judges, an announcer, and two table workers. That's 6 people (plus myself working as the meet secretary). For away meets, we need three judges and two table workers. This season, we'll have 8 total meets, and need between 40 and 50 volunteers. That's more volunteers than we have divers on our team which means everyone will have to volunteer more than once. Please don't leave it to just a few parents to take on these tasks.
To judge, must take a class. Thank you to everyone who came last night at Chesterbrook. The last Judge's Clinic of the season is this Thursday, June 19 at Sleepy Hollow Bath and Racquet Club at 6:30pm. If you are able to become a judge, please do so.
To referee, you must have judged at least one meet previously and get certified. Certifications last for two years. There is a last chance Referee Certification Clinic on Saturday, June 21st at 3pm. It will be at the George Mason Regional Library. Again, if you can referee even just one or two meets, it takes a huge load off the rest of us. Please consider becoming certified.
Table Workers and Announcers require no training! Please sign up to be a table worker or announcer and we will train you before the meet starts.
Please start signing up for volunteer slots now, so we can know what roles we need to fill as the meets get closer.
DONUTS! A long time tradition of Chesterbrook Dive is Wednesday Diver Donuts. Signup in Swimtopia to bring three dozen donuts on Wednesday as a little mid-week pickup for our hardworking divers and coaches. Please bring the donuts by 8:30 in the morning so our youngest divers can get their sugar rush before heading off to summer camp :-)
PRACTICE TIME IS CHANGING! School out and the water is warm, so morning practices begin Monday, June 16.
The times are:
8 & Under: 8:00 AM – 8:45 AM
9/10s: 8:45 AM – 9:45 AM (Younger Competitive Divers)
11 and up: 9:45 AM – 11:00 AM (Older Competitive Divers)
If you cannot make your assigned practice due to a conflict, please feel free to come at another time. We will take a look at how many divers are coming to each practice over the next few weeks (we know Arlington County divers won't be joining us in the morning for another week), and see if we need to make any adjustments.
A-Meet Divers! Please talk to coach Maddie this week about whether you a ready for the first A meet, then sign up in Swimtopia so we know who's coming. We're revamping our meet-sheet process this year and it's going to take longer than usual (we miss you Coach Dave). Warmups for home meets run from 4:15pm to 5:00pm, then the meet begins promptly at 6:00pm. 5:00pm to 5:45pm is the standard time for the visiting team to warm up. We will try to have concessions available starting at 5pm. Volunteers please report at 5:30 to the scorers table.
Lollipop Meet! The Lollipop Meet is a fun, intra-mural dive meet to get new divers a chance to experience the flow and pressure of an actual dive competition. A-meet divers are welcome to attend and practice their regular dives, new dives, or ridiculous dives - whatever seems like the most fun. New judges are encouraged to come and practice judging in a no-pressure situation. Warmups will begin at 5:30pm and the meet will begin at 6:00pm.
And with that, we hurdle our way into the season! Thank you to everyone in advance for the hard work you'll put in to make this season a sucess. I can't wait to see you all around Chesterbrook,
Your dive reps,
-Jeff and Cindy
